While Auburn football’s recruiting class of 2023 is starting to take shape, the Tigers have so far struck out on a 2023 quarterback. The depth chart is loaded heading into 2022, with TJ Finley, Zach Calzada, and Robby Ashford competing for QB1 and Holden Geriner waiting in the wings, Auburn is still looking for a quarterback to take in the next class.

The target that seemed most serious for the coaching staff was Brock Glenn, but he was apparently determined not to let his first name, Auburn, define his future, and he committed to Ohio State over Auburn and Florida State earlier this month.

Quarterback recruiting buzz died down a little, with some speculating that the Tigers may not even take a 2023 QB with all the depth they currently have. Then, the coaching staff extended an offer to Iowa State QB commit JJ Kohl, whose father also played football for the Cyclones.

Now, the Tigers have turned to their next QB target, who has also already committed to another school. 3-star QB Emory Williams, who committed to Miami just last month, is now officially on the Tigers’ radar. He is ranked as the #30 quarterback in the recruiting class of 2023.

According to Auburn Undercover, Bryan Harsin and the coaching staff are in prime position to make Williams’ recruitment a battle due to the Hurricanes’ recent landing of 4-star QB Jaden Rashada. With a two-quarterback class at Miami and the opportunity for Williams to play closer to his hometown of Milton at Auburn, the Tigers could create the perfect scenario for a flip.

Joining Auburn football in the pursuit of Emory Williams is Florida State, a program that has been notoriously recruiting the same targets as the Tigers in this cycle. However, Williams is already working on setting a visit to the Plains, and although there is no timeline for any kind of decision, it’s clear the the QB has an interest in becoming an Auburn Tiger.
