Auburn football: Tigers pursue recently de-committed Jamarrion Harkless
The Auburn football coaching staff is still working on building out the recruiting class of 2023, and recently they have begun to heat up their pursuit of a recently de-committed defensive tackle. 3-star DT Jamarrion Harkless received an offer from the Tigers earlier this summer, but committed to Illinois in June.
A little more than two months later, Harkless rescinded his commitment to the Fighting Illini and is planning an official visit to the Plains. Harkless is ranked as the #75 defensive lineman in the recruiting class of 2023 and is the #5 recruit out of the state of Kentucky.
He has received over 20 offers so far, from schools including Ole Miss, Michigan, Georgia, Louisville, Cincinatti, South Carolina, and Purdue. Harkless has taken multiple unofficial visits to Michigan and Louisville, and plans to make an official visit to Michigan soon.
Harkless will officially visit Ole Miss on the weekend of September 2-4, and then take an OV to the Plains on September 9-11, the weekend the Tigers host San Jose State. The defensive tackle told Auburn Live that although this will be his first visit to Auburn, he’s very familiar with the team dating back to the days of Cam Newton:
"“I’m looking forward to it. It will be my first time at Auburn and I can’t wait. Auburn is my favorite school,” Harkless said. “It’s the school I grew up watching the most. Even though I’m from Kentucky, Auburn has been my school because of Cam.”"
Defensive line coach Jimmy Brumbaugh is in frequent communication with Harkless, but it seems likely that the DT’s recruitment will last until after he has taken all of his official visits in the fall. With a solid love for Auburn football, Jamarrion Harkless could be the Tigers’ next commit in the recruiting class of 2023.
