Auburn football handed walk-on third-year linebacker Jake Levant a full scholarship between periods early in practice on Saturday in a moment that hopefully pulls the LB room closer ahead of a big season for Christian Robinson’s group.
Levant, who picked off Zach Calzada during a 7-on-7 run toward the end of practice, was surrounded by teammates who were supportive of his full ride. While he has largely been a special teams contributor, the Birmingham area product has made SEC academic honor roll both his freshman and sophomore year.
The six-foot-one, 224-pounder chose walking on at Auburn over a few smaller FBS scholarship offers, according to Opelika-Auburn News’ Adam Cole, and cited his family history as a big factor in coming to Auburn — four of his siblings had attended the university prior to his enrollment in 2020.
Levant said that the good lord was calling him to the Plains, leading him to be a walk-on for two years before earning a full ride:

Updating the Auburn football QB situation after Saturday
We’re officially two weeks out from the September 3rd opener at Jordan-Hare Stadium hosting Mercer. Auburn football HC Bryan Harsin and his staff has critical decisions to make — none more so than the choice of signal-caller under center.
T.J. Finley continues to be the most accurate passer, with Robby Ashford right behind him. Zach Calzada continues to struggle and is a distant-third in the QB race. Ashford split time with Finley in 7-on-7 drills with the first-teamers, adding credence to the idea that we may see multiple-quarterback sets.
