Though the recruitment of the 2023 class has been moving slowly so far, the Auburn football team picked up a new commitment today in Daquayvious Sorey. The 4-star wide receiver is the eighth member of the Tigers’ 2023 class.

Ranked as the #188 overall recruit and the #22 wide receiver in the recruiting class of 2023, Sorey is the #43 recruit out of the state of Florida and chose the Tigers over Alabama, Miami, and Florida.

Auburn Live reports that the big receiver has actually been a silent commit for awhile now, but only, wide receivers coach Ike Hilliard, and head coach Bryan Harsin knew after he told them in early July. Sorey held firm to his decision while carrying on his recruitment as normal, even visiting the Gators–who were the favorites to land the WR until last weekend–at the end of July.

Hilliard has been extremely successful on the recruiting front for Auburn football since joining the staff earlier this year, and Sorey is another big pickup for his position group. At 6-foot-2, he is comparable to current freshman receiver Camden Brown, who has been racking up rave reviews throughout fall camp.

According to Cole Pinkston, Sorey’s skillset is exactly what the Tigers are looking for in receivers. At 6-foot-2, he is comparable to current freshman receiver Camden Brown, who has been racking up rave reviews throughout fall camp. He will be especially effective in shorter routes and competing for jump balls:

"Sorey will be used to win jump balls. He more than likely isn’t a consistent deep ball threat. Sorey appears to be more effective on short to intermediate routes. Screens and plays that get him in space can prove to be effective with his ability to make yards after the catch."

Though the class certainly has a long way to go, this is another big get for Auburn football.
