Former USC Trojans safety Su’a Cravens, now an analyst for CBS Sports, believes there is an SEC football bias based on the way Florida made a meteoric jump into the AP Top 25 rankings following a Week 1 victory over Utah after being unranked in the preseason.

After Texas A&M was upset by Appalachian State 17-14 at home in what may end up being the biggest underdog triumphs of the 2022 season and Notre Dame shockingly dropped their second straight game to Marshall, Cravens took to Twitter to ask if they’d end up being ranked this week in a similar fashion to the Gators:

Had Appalachian State knocked off North Carolina Week 1 in a 63-61 shootout for the ages, there actually would be a case for the Mountaineers to be ranked in the AP Top 25 at this point. As for Marshall? Well, they had the most votes outside the Top 25 and likely have more of a gripe. That Florida only fell four spots following their loss to Kentucky after leapfrogging 26 teams (including Auburn) following a win over Utah is somewhat maddening for the Thundering Herd faithful and certainly lends to the idea of an SEC bias.

Auburn remains one of eight unbeaten SEC football teams after San Jose State scare

The Auburn Tigers were losing at halftime to San Jose State despite being a 23-point favorite heading into this past Saturday’s ESPNU night-cap between a mid-tier Mountain West squad and a program that is trending into SEC football also-ran territory as the questions mount each week re: AU’s ability to compete Week 3 and beyond.

Auburn joins Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Georgia, and Tennessee as the unbeaten squads that survived the first three weeks of the college football season with their records intact.
