The Auburn football team is preparing to head into their fourth game of the 2022 season, and even after playing three games in head coach Bryan Harsin’s second season on the Plains, it does not appear that the Tigers have a solid game plan for the offense.
At first, it was exciting to see both TJ Finley and Robby Ashford on the field, appearing to compliment each other even as they were technically competing for the same job. Now, three weeks in, neither of the two have established themselves as the frontrunner in the competition, or even the best person for the job.
Although it was discussed prior to the Penn State matchup, Zach Calzada has still not hit the field for Auburn football, and it’s becoming more and more clear that there truly is just a giant question mark over the whole quarterback position.
When asked about the quarterback situation and after being pressed on the subject of naming a Week 4 QB1, here is what Bryan Harsin had to say, via Auburn Live:
"“We’ll see. We’ll let guys compete this week. It’s Monday. We haven’t decided on that. We’ll let guys compete and put the best guys out there on Saturday to play,” Harsin said when asked if there was a clear-cut starter after three tough games from the quarterback position."
Does this mean that the Tigers are going back to square one and letting Calzada, Ashford, and Finley compete for the starting role leading up to the Missouri game? After a dismal loss to the Nittany Lions last weekend, pressure is settling heavily on Harsin’s shoulders to make some changes.
Still, the head coach is not offering up any clues about what the plan is with the quarterbacks this weekend, and it’s likely we’ll be left wondering all week about who will potentially start under center for Auburn football in their SEC opener.
