The conversation right now revolving Auburn football would be radically different right now if the Jordan-Hare Stadium voodoo didn’t manifest a missed field goal from Missouri kicker Harrison Mevis with time running out in the fourth quarter and a fumble in overtime inches from the pylon from Mizzou running back Nathaniel Peat that would have given the Missouri Tigers the victory and likely would have sent Bryan Harsin packing from the Plains.
College football insider Bruce Feldman said on FOX’s Big Noon Saturday that ‘if (Auburn) get beat (Saturday) by Missouri, I’m told there’s a really good chance they could pull the plug on him as early as (Sunday).’ It’s not a stretch to say this could have been the end of the Harsin era had Missouri not choked away the game twice.
With the win, Harsin gets his record as Auburn football head coach over .500 with a critical showdown under the lights next Saturday against LSU. AU has not beaten the Bayou Bengals three years in a row this century.
Twitter lost its mind at the two late gaffes that singlehandedly saved Harsin on Saturday afternoon:
Auburn football still doesn’t have a definitive QB1
LSU is down a few key members on the defense, but Auburn may not even be in a position to exploit that. Not a single AU rusher was able to surpass 50 yards on the ground against a suspect Mizzou defensive front and Robby Ashford threw 18 passes because the offensive line couldn’t sustain a pocket long enough to allow him time to get anything off.
Holden Geriner made his debut and complete two of his three passes, but his possessions didn’t indicate he is ready to be the starter. With T.J. Finley calling out the offensive line and his dad criticizing the team on Locked On Auburn, he may have cost himself opportunities moving forward.
Who knows what Bryan Harsin has planned in Week 5.
