Auburn football: Paul Finebaum calls Bryan Harsin’s dismissal “inevitable”

As we head into week six of the 2022 college football season, it is becoming more and more evident that any hope for Auburn football to have a good season is drying up quickly.

From the very beginning, many fans believed that in order to have a successful season, the Tigers would have to be 5-0 heading into their matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs. After five games, the Tigers have only won three, and two were too close for comfort (Missouri and San Jose State).

With the SEC gauntlet ahead, including Alabama and Georgia with Ole Miss in between, there are not a lot of games left that look like sure wins for Auburn football. In Paul Finebaum’s opinion, it is time for the program to cut their losses and move on from the Bryan Harsin era, via Saturday Down South:

"“They went 3-2,” he said. “That tells you all you need to know when you consider the obvious, Georgia, Alabama and then fill in the blanks with everyone else. This is not going to be a good season. … When it’s inevitable, go ahead and do it.”"

With the current state of high school recruiting, decisions have to be made quickly, and programs can no longer wait until the end of the season to part ways with their coaches. The sooner a program shows that they’re turning things around and changing directions, the quicker recruiting will improv–exactly what the Tigers need, with a class that currently sits at the #55 spot in the nation with just ten recruits.

While Finebaum believes that Harsin will get the boot following the Georgia or Ole Miss game, both on the road, many other sources are pointing to the bye week as the logical time for his dismissal. It may be true that Harsin did not get a fair chance as the head coach, but it’s also true that he has done nothing to prove himself as the right person to lead this team.
