Auburn football has not been as big of an underdog against the spread since 2012 when the Tigers battled Alabama in that season’s Tuscaloosa-hosted Iron Bowl. That just so happened to be Gene Chizik’s game as head coach before being replaced by Gus Malzahn the following off-season.
Many see this Saturday’s Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry game against Georgia as the potential swan song for Bryan Harsin, who has a 9-9 record on the Plains after a heartbreaking 21-17 loss to LSU — one in which the Tigers were leading 17-0 in the first half.
To some, it’s a bit shocking Harsin’s dismissal hasn’t come already. Justin Ferguson of the Auburn Observer has revealed just how poorly the Tigers have performed in the game’s most crucial moments. Per Ferguson, Auburn football has now been outscored 87-13 in the Middle Eight — aka the final four minutes of the first half and first four minutes of the second half — and has also scored the fewest points (7) and allowed the most points (42) of any SEC team. Against Georgia, barring some serious rivalry game magic, that sounds like a recipe for disaster.
With their backs up against the wall, the Tigers face historic underdog odds against the Bulldogs Between the Hedges. Fly War Eagle has your odds and a prediction for a potential era-ending Week 6 matchup (All lines courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook):

Georgia vs. Auburn prediction
Georgia has been awfully vulnerable in recent weeks, with Missouri pushing the Dawgs to the brink with a 19-12 fourth quarter lead before succumbing 26-22 Week 5 and Kent State of the MAC having no issues covering a 45.5-point spread Week 4 in a game that was within two scores through the fourth quarter.
That sets up Auburn to be the sacrificial lamb Week 6. At this point, there’s no reason to believe in the Tigers. Expect AU to expect a similar fate to Bo Nix Week 1. You might as well profit off of it while you’re at it.
