After not going into Athens 5-0 prepared to take on the Georgia Bulldogs, the Auburn football team expectedly lost the game, but in a gruesome fashion. Head coach Bryan Harsin’s team spent four quarters looking undisciplined and confused and could not make anything happen on the offense.
Robby Ashford, who never played a game of collegiate football before this season, can only be blamed so much when the offensive line can’t block to save their lives much less give him any time to make a decision. How is it possible that the same group of offensive linemen from last season has not improved whatsoever?
At this point in the season, the Auburn football team is 3-3 and 1-2 in SEC play. The ship is sinking, and it’s sinking quickly. But did this loss to Georgia seal Bryan Harsin’s fate? Will they actually fire him this weekend?
There has been a lot of talk recently that the program may keep Harsin on for the rest of the season due to several factors, including the fact that they are currently searching for a new athletic director that would likely want a say in the hiring of the next head coach.
But this game was littered with bad coaching decisions and a major lack of discipline. The Tigers lost 60 yards to penalties throughout the game, and there was the inexplicable fake punt that maybe could have worked but it didn’t, and it gave all the momentum to Georgia.
How much further will Auburn have to fall before a change is made? How many recruits will we miss on or lose because our program is still being run by these unsuccessful coaches? The players deserve a fair chance to win games, and it’s becoming clear that is going to be hard to do for the rest of the 2022 season.
