The Auburn football program got a massive win late this week with the announcement of a new commit to the recruiting class of 2023. 4-star offensive lineman Clay Wedin has been a longtime target of the Tigers and finally flipped his commitment.

Wedin originally seemed like a lock to Auburn football earlier this year, nearly announcing his commitment to the Tigers in February, but ultimately decided to hold off. Then, Wedin took a summer visit to Michigan State and fell in love with the program and its coaching staff (and its stability).

In June, the offensive lineman committed to the Spartans, but the Tigers never backed off from trying to convert Wedin, per Auburn Live. Offensive line assistant Joe Bernardi played a major role in the OL’s recruitment:

"“When I committed in June to MSU, I let coach Bernardi know and his response was, ‘I don’t care. I’m not going to stop recruiting you. You’re going to be an Auburn Tiger.’ Auburn has never stopped and has been relentless ever since January.”"

Wedin, who is ranked as the #22 inside offensive lineman in the recruiting class of 2023, credited the Auburn football coaches for consistently being open and honest with him and noted that it’s just something about Auburn that kept pulling him back.

His visit to the Plains for the night-time matchup against LSU certainly helped Auburn football’s cause. Wedin and his father had a fantastic experience on the unofficial visit, and the OL decided the Plains is where he belongs.

The Tigers now have 11 commits to the recruiting class of 2023, three of which are offensive linemen–the most high school OL the Tigers have had in a recruiting class since 2017. Although the program is certainly facing some struggles right now, this is a huge recruiting win for Auburn football.

Next. AD hire must happen before Harsin is fired. dark
