The 2022 college football season is over halfway finished, and things are looking a little grim for the Auburn football program. Heading into the bye week, the Tigers’ record sits at 3-4 and seems to be a pretty accurate reflection of how good the team is.

Nothing has seemed to come easily to this team so far, even the wins over Mercer and San Jose State. The Tigers really should have lost the Missouri game, but they should have pulled it off against LSU at home under the lights of Jordan-Hare. The last three losses to Penn State, Georgia, and Ole Miss hurt but were not unexpected.

The players certainly deserve credit for not giving up and fighting their way through every matchup, especially with all of the negative noise surrounding head coach Bryan Harsin. More than anything else, the conversation surrounding Auburn football has been about when Harsin will be relieved of his duties on the Plains, and yet the student-athletes have shown nothing but fight and determination.

When asked by the media if he had received “assurances” from the higher-ups that he would be able to finish out the 2022 season, here’s what Harsin had to say, per The Montgomery Advertiser:

"“We’ve talked about this before, it’s been no different for me ever since I’ve coached,” Harsin said. “My job is to help this football team improve and get better, every single player. There’s more to it than that, but we don’t talk about those things. We talk about the games, and that’s fine, but there’s a lot to it."

At this point, whether or not he remains the head coach–and for how long–is out of Harsin’s control, and the only thing he can do from here on out is honor the athletes under his charge and put the players in the best position to win football games.
