With Auburn football in the midst of a much-needed bye week following three straight losses — two of which were of the double-digit variety and the other of the blown 17-point variety — Fly War Eagle had a chance to catch all of Saturday’s action.

The most exciting game of the early slate was undoubtedly an ACC clash between No. 5 Clemson and No. 14 Syracuse within the confines of Memorial Stadium. After going down 21-7 early, the Tigers answered back with 20 unanswered points in the second half.

I wish it was the Auburn football Tigers that could be written about with that last sentence but, alas, it was Clemson.

The most notable development during the October 22 ACC clash was the benching of D.J. Uiagalelei for Cade Klubnik, the No. 1 overall quarterback in the nation. Uiagalelei threw 2 interceptions and had a key fumble in the first half that Syracuse took back the other way from the red zone for a touchdown.

After the Uiagalelei benching, Twitter was lit up with suggestions for the Class of 2020 5-star out of St. John Bosco to take to the transfer portal:

Should Auburn football pursue D.J. Uiagalelei if he hits the transfer portal?

No.

Auburn football has reeled in three Power Five transfer quarterbacks the past two cycles, so adding another — who may not even have immediate eligibility — should not be thought of as a potential game plan this offseason.

D.J. Uiagalelei has not led Clemson to the type of success the program has become used to in the College Football Playoff era, so he won’t be a magical fix for the Auburn Tigers. Not only that, but Robby Ashford looks like he has taken the reins as the starter after rallying the offense against Ole Miss Week 7.
