Auburn football had the bye week during the October 22 slate, getting the chance to watch Bo Nix solidify his Heisman standing with a statement victory over UCLA for Oregon and Gus Malzahn’s UCF falter spectacularly against East Carolina in a game they were favored in. The current-day Tigers are back in action in Week 9, though, and they will host an Arkansas program that also had a break during Week 8.

When we last saw the Razorbacks in action, Sam Pittman’s group took down BYU in an emphatic fashion (52-35) out in Provo. While the Cougars came into the season with high hopes, Arkansas, along with Liberty, Notre Dame, and Oregon all crushed them. Before that, the Hogs were on a 3-game slide to SEC West opponents Texas A&M, Alabama, and Mississippi State. Only one of those games was within one score, but to be fair to Arkansas, they could have won had Cam Little not missed a 42-yard field goal with time expiring.

Now, for the Auburn football side of the equation. The Tigers lost their last matchup before the bye by two touchdowns to Ole Miss, and got their doors blown off the week before by Georgia in a game that was competitive for 15 minutes. LSU, Auburn’s SEC West opening opponent, was the last team that looked beatable, but a blown 17-point lead upended those hopes.

Arkansas has the momentum heading into this one, and thus holds a slight edge on the spread. AU, however, holds a six-game winning streak and has won 8 of their last 9 games overall dating back to Gene Chizik’s final season on the Plains.

Will this season continue to mirror that one, with Bryan Harsin consistently on the hot seat? Fly War Eagle has your odds and a prediction for another week, and another potential era-ending matchup Week 9 (All lines courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook):

Arkansas vs. Auburn prediction

This game is pretty close to being a pick’em, but sportsbooks also seem to think it will be a shoot-out at 11 a.m. While it’s not impossible for their to be serious points put up first thing in the morning — as last year’s 77-point Mississippi State meltdown showed us — that happening between these two teams, even with the defensive deficiencies both teams have showed this season, isn’t on Fly War Eagle’s radar.

Prediction: 61.5u (-110)
