Auburn football fans are not sold that Lane Kiffin’s seemingly glowing endorsement of Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders for the Tigers head coaching vacancy means that the Rebels head coach definitively wants to stay at Ole Miss.
Kiffin spoke highly of Sanders’ chances of succeeding in East Central Alabama due to his success as a recruiter so far at JSU and the pull ‘Prime Time’ will have with recruits that grew up idolizing him, even if they were too young to watch his (no pun intended) prime years.
“I think he’d do great,” Kiffin said about Sanders via USA Today. “I think that’s a great name and they should hire him. Great recruiter. Great name. This is a different world we’re in now because recruiting has always been important. But now we have the portal. You can change a roster faster than you ever could before, and you could lose a roster faster than you ever could before.”
That last line about building and losing a roster faster than ever is important to note when it comes to Kiffin potentially becoming the next Auburn football coach and his current role at Ole Miss. If Kiffin were to come to AU, he’d have the chance to bring some of his best players with him — and have the chance to bring back some of the Tigers recruits who decommitted from Auburn during Bryan Harsin’s tenure.
Due to the state of Mississippi’s laws preventing public contracts from signing contracts longer than four years, many Auburn football fans feel that despite Kiffin sharing his praise of ‘Prime Time’ to the Plains on his personal Twitter account, Kiffin is merely deflecting his own interest in the job for his team’s sake in the final month of the 2022 season.
Auburn football fans believe Lane Kiffin is deflecting with Deion Sanders endorsement
Tiger fans took to Twitter to cast doubt on Lane Kiffin not having interest in Auburn, replying to his tweet directly that they looked forward to having him as their next head coach:
Time will tell if Kiffin is barn-bound or not, but he’s clearly not afraid to tweet about it — even if he isn’t yet willing to answer questions about it at press conferences just yet.
