Auburn football coaching search: Lane Kiffin leads, calls being made
The energy and morale of Auburn football took a complete turnaround once the program made the decision to part ways with Bryan Harsin and name Cadillac Williams as the interim head coach. Fans, players, alumni, and anyone who loves Auburn has rallied around Cadillac and the boys, who got their first win in months against Texas A&M this past weekend.
While everyone loves Coach Cadillac and no one doubts the magnitude of the impact he’s had on the program this season in the wake of all the changes, it is not likely that he becomes the permanent head coach of the Auburn football program. Rather, it’s expected he will be retained on staff by the Tigers’ next head coach.
The favorite for the coaching search is still believed to be current Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin, and there are lots of rumors surrounding what has or has not already happened in the negotiations. Rumor has it that Kiffin may have given a verbal agreement to Auburn already, but this cannot be confirmed.
According to Auburn Undercover, until something is set in stone, Auburn Athletics Director John Cohen will continue to make calls, propose interviews, and study other candidates:
"Calls are still being made to agents. Some interviews have either taken place or will as soon as coaches are available for interviews. Those things will continue until there is a firm agreement, whether with Kiffin or someone else."
Although folks on the internet were acting as though something big was on the verge of happening in the coaching search, it’s still likely that there will not be an announcement until after the Iron Bowl on November 26.
With the amount of importance being placed on this hire, Cohen is expected to take his time and put Auburn football in the best position possible to win a championship, we all just have to be a little patient when it comes to wanting final answers.
