Auburn football flips LSU commit after five Plains visits
The Auburn football team is on the eve of its biggest game all season: the Iron Bowl. The Tigers will travel to Tuscaloosa to take on the two-loss Tide and hope to pull off a sixth win to secure a spot in a post-season bowl game.
Although it’s rivalry week on the Plains, the most-talked-about subject regarding the Tigers is most certainly the coaching search. Rumors have been flying like crazy in the past few weeks, with most information pointing to the fact that Lane Kiffin will likely be the next head coach of Auburn football.
In the meantime, though, interim head coach Cadillac Williams is keeping the program rolling, and that includes recruiting. Just this morning, the Tigers earned the commitment of 4-star defensive lineman Darron Reed, who has been committed to LSU since July.
Reed, a Columbus, GA, native who attends Carver, is the #173 overall prospect and the #26 defensive lineman in the recruiting class of 2023 and is the #14 recruit out of the Peach State. He officially visited Auburn on June 21, ahead of his LSU commitment decision, but returned to the Plains five separate times for home games this season.
The Auburn football coaching staff never quit recruiting Reed, and ultimately it was enough to get the flip, per Auburn Live:
"“Auburn is a great school and I could be developed here,” Reed said after a visit in June. “Coach (Jimmy) Brumbaugh is a great coach and even better person. We’ve been building a relationship. He said I could play anywhere on the d-line, a little bit of everything.”"
Reed marks the 12th commitment in Auburn football’s 2023 recruiting class, and is the second most highly ranked commit following running back Jeremiah Cobb. The Tigers’ recruiting class moves up to the 39th spot overall, and the #11 class in the SEC.
