The 2022 regular season is over, and the Auburn football program is still operating without an official head coach. Even so, the Tigers are still rolling when it comes to recruiting, gaining momentum with last week’s commitment from Darron Reed, a 4-star defensive lineman that was committed to LSU.

While many fans are laser-focused on the head coaching search, it was announced today that the Tigers have earned another commitment in the class of 2023, they’re fourth commit from a prospect out of the state of Alabama.

3-star edge Brenton Williams hails from Opelika, just down the road from the Plains. He is ranked as the #104 edge in the recruiting class of 2023 and is the #43 recruit from Alabama. Williams initially committed to Coastal Carolina back in June, but after taking frequent trips to Auburn’s campus this month, he backed off his pledge on November 17.

Cadillac Williams and Auburn football edge coach Rob Bellantoni worked hard to show Williams he was a priority for the Tigers, even after he continued to receive offers from programs like Missouri, Michigan State and Penn State. On each of his visits, the staff continued to impress both the edge rusher and his family.

Has the unknowns surrounding the Auburn football coaching staff played into Williams’ recruitment at all? According to Auburn Live, despite the questions he still has, Williams could always feel the love from Auburn:

"“I went over there and saw how they ran everything,” Williams said. “I could tell they were good people running everything and they were going to develop me right. And it’s close to home. Just as a school, they would have more resources. And it’s SEC football.”"

Brenton Williams is the 13th commitment to the Tigers’ recruiting class of 2023, which is now ranked #32 overall and #10 in the SEC.
