The Auburn football coaching staff– those that have been hired so far– have been working hard to boost the Tigers’ position in recruiting ahead of the December signing day on the 21st. Auburn currently has only 11 commits from the class of 2023, and has the 51st ranked recruiting class overall.
While there is still plenty of time, junior college athletes, and the transfer portal, it is extremely important to put a lot of work into recruiting the high school kids and get fresh talent to the Plains. One prospect that is expected to be a member of the Tigers’ recruiting class by the end of the month is 3-star cornerback Colton Hood.
Out of McDonough, GA, Hood committed to Michigan State back in September as the #75 cornerback in the recruiting class of 2023 and the #61 recruit out of the Peach State. Hood received his Auburn football offer back in August, and visited the Plains twice–both unofficially and officially– prior to committing to the Spartans.
Hood is officially visiting campus again this weekend, something that is allowed due to the new coaching staff, and according to Auburn Live, it’s extremely likely that he leaves the Plains committed to Hugh Freeze and the Tigers:
"At this point, it would be surprising if he isn’t on the commit list by the end of the visit. At the very least, we think a private verbal is coming. Regardless, we’ll be shocked if he doesn’t end up in the class."
Another thing working in the Tigers’ favor is Colton Hood’s legacy status; his uncle, Roderick Hood, played 8 season in the NFL after his career as a defensive back at Auburn. With a good visit this weekend, it’s highly likely that Hood is swayed to take back his verbal pledge from Michigan State and become a Tiger.
