While the Auburn football team had a break from playing the game this past weekend due to the bye week, the coaching staff stayed busy recruiting for the future classes on the Plains. Head coach Bryan Harsin and offensive line coach Will Friend spent time in Kansas checking out a high priority JUCO target, and multiple coaches made moves in the Sunshine State.

However, with the return of football to the Plains, it’s time for the recruits to come to campus to experience the one-of-a-kind game day at Jordan-Hare Stadium. One of this weekends’ visitors is being pursued heavily by the Tigers, led by associate head coach Zac Etheridge, despite already being committed to another program.

Colton Hood is ranked as the #72 cornerback in the recruiting class of 2023 and the #61 recruit out of the state of Georgia. He has been committed to Michigan State since early September, but the Tigers have not given up, and Hood has been somewhat receptive due to his legacy status with Auburn football.

According to Auburn Undercover, several of Hood’s family members played for the Tigers and the cornerback grew up as a fan of the program:

"Hood’s dad Bengie, uncle Roderick, older brother Ben and cousin D’Antoine have all played at Auburn. With Roderick being the most notable, playing in 47 games at Auburn and finishing his college career with 106 tackles and five interceptions. Roderick went undrafted but made a name for himself in the NFL, playing close to 10 years and finishing his career with 254 tackles and 15 interceptions."

Hood previously visited the Plains for the Penn State game earlier this season, and apparently liked it enough to make a return trip for an official visit this weekend when the Tigers play the Arkansas Razorbacks. Despite his commitment to the Spartans, his close ties with the Auburn football program may end up swaying Colton Hood.
