Auburn football pursuing former Liberty QB commit Hank Brown
By June of this year, class of 2023 quarterback Hank Brown knew that he was going to continue his collegiate career at Liberty. Now, in December, Brown may end up as an Auburn football quarterback commit.
Ever since landing the head coaching job, Hugh Freeze has been working double time when it comes to recruiting. Whether it’s recruits’ basketball games, in-home visits, or campus visits on the Plains, Freeze has certainly been busy pitching the Auburn football program. And now he’s giving that pitch to a quarterback that already committed to play for him.
Shortly after Freeze took the job at Auburn, Brown decommitted from the Flames, and he spent this past weekend visiting the Plains. When he committed to Liberty, Brown praised the coaching staff as the primary reason for his decision, and he got the chance to reconnect with Freeze and offensive assistant Kent Austin, crediting them for making his trip so great, per Auburn Undercover:
"“The coaches,” he said. “Coach Freeze and Coach Austin are authentic and really believe I can have success there. Their facilities are best in the country.”"
Although the Tigers have yet to offer Brown, he says it is because the current staff is taking care of a situation left by the previous staff, and that Freeze has made it clear that he would fit in perfectly in his Auburn offense, per Auburn Live:
"“We went through it all today,” he told Auburn Live. “It’s a similar offense that he ran at Liberty with some changes. Should fit me well. Coach Freeze was confident of that.”"
Could the “situation” referred to by Brown be that of 3-star QB Keyone Jenkins who committed to interim head coach Cadillac Williams prior to Hugh Freeze’s arrival? There is uncertainty over whether or not the new staff plans to keep the Miami Central QB, but signs are pointing to Hank Brown.
