Did Bo Nix take a shot at Auburn football fans in Oregon return announcement?

Bo Nix announced his return to Oregon on Sunday, December 18 via the official Oregon football Twitter account — and in the process may have taken what can be perceived as a shot at Auburn football.

Nix specifically shouted out his new home stadium and home crowd and called Ducks fans the best in the world:

"“There’s nothing like a Saturday in Autzen Stadium, in front of the best fans in college football. There’s nothing like being an Oregon Duck. For 2023, I’m back.”"

One of the most difficult things to watch for Auburn football fans in 2022 — besides, of course, the severely overmatched offensive line, underwhelming secondary, quiet as a mouse receiving corps, and inconsistent quarterback play — was seeing Bo Nix morph into an actual Heisman contender.

2022 seemed like it’d be the year for Nix, with him surpassing many career-highs just two-thirds of the way into the calendar. He finished just outside the group that went to the Heisman ceremony in New York and Oregon could finish with 10 wins after topping out on the Plains at nine.

Given how things played out in Auburn this past season, it is a near certainty that he wouldn’t have been able to replicate those numbers in orange and blue. That is a sad fact considering the hype he had coming into his AU career and the family legacy he seemed destined to fulfill, but Bryan Harsin’s program made Nix miserable in 2021 — leading to a decision to join the Ducks that has paid off in every way conceivable.

With Hugh Freeze now in charge, Auburn’s quarterback could do bigger things in 2023 than anyone did in 2022, but Nix is very likely to continue doing great things in Oregon. With that said, a step back could be inevitable with Kenny Dillingham leaving the Ducks’ offensive coordinator position to be the head coach at Arizona State.
