Auburn football: QB Hank Brown commits to Hugh Freeze again
For a long time, it looked like the Auburn football program would not be taking a quarterback in the recruiting cycle of 2023. After the Tigers missed out on their original target, Brock Glenn, QB recruiting slowed down, and it seemed like looking to the portal was the plan of action.
Now, things have changed. Zach Calzada has officially entered the transfer portal, and TJ Finley is expected to enter as well. With only Holden Geriner and Robby Ashford left on the roster, both a high school and transfer portal QB would be great to add to the 2023 class.
Earlier this year, 3-star quarterback Hank Brown was committed to Liberty, but following Hugh Freeze’s departure to the Plains, Brown walked back his pledge. He visited Auburn before ever receiving an offer from the staff, but was reportedly told that he “is their guy.”
Keyone Jenkins, the Miami-Central quarterback who committed to Cadillac’s staff in November, will now be a preferred walk on for the Tigers, and Brown was officially offered by the new staff on Monday of this week. Today, the Nashville native announced that he has committed to Hugh Freeze once again, but this time at Auburn:
Brown decided between UAB and Auburn football, and although his former high school coach is now in charge at UAB it’s hard to imagine that after committing to Hugh Freeze and Kent Austin at Liberty that the young quarterback would pass up the opportunity to play for those same coaches at a higher level school.
The quarterback becomes the Tigers’ 16th commit in the class of 2023, pushing the class up to #23 overall and #9 in the SEC. Even with the commitments of Brown and Jenkins, we can still expect Freeze and the coaching staff to continue combing the portal for another quarterback.
