Auburn basketball looks to avoid their first losing streak of the 2022-23 season on Wednesday, December 21 when the Tigers take on the Washington Huskies at the Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion in Seattle.

AU last squared off against USC in Los Angeles and lost by a single possession — blowing a first-half lead in the closing minutes against the Trojans. Johni Broome was the only starter in double-digit scoring figures (16), though Tre Donaldson emerged as a potential impact player off the pine with 12 points himself. Wendell Green Jr. didn’t look like himself with his ankle injury, and that could remain a worry against Washington.

UW is buoyed by a strength-by-committee approach but has a clear star in Keion Brooks leading the charge. It’ll be on Chris Moore and Allen Flanigan to keep Brooks at bay. Elsewhere, a sizable Huskies frontcourt will provide an intriguing matchup against the likes of Broome, Jaylin Williams, Dylan Cardwell, and Yohan Traore — the latter of whom needs to start making good on the potential the likes of Jon Rothstein saw in him coming into the season in order to justify his minutes. He has scored three points against their Power Five opponents (USC, Northwestern) and in their first loss to Memphis.

The Tigers entered the USC game as a slight favorite and they do so again tonight against the Huskies. Does Auburn basketball make a statement with the threat of falling out of the AP Top 25 looming? Or does Washington make a statement of their own considering their own struggles this season against top teams? Fly War Eagle has your odds and a prediction for the Pac-12 network-televised matchup (All lines courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook):

Call me optimistic, but this writer sees Bruce Pearl getting a big time effort from his underperforming guards against Washington and taking this one with some breathing room on the spread.
