During the early part of fall 2022, the Auburn football program was struggling to earn commitments from their recruiting targets. Cadillac Williams, Zac Etheridge, and the rest of Bryan Harsin’s coaching staff worked hard to keep the ball rolling after his dismissal from the program, and Hugh Freeze was able to come in and pick things up where they left off.
The result was a pretty successful early signing day for the Tigers, who locked down 18 signees and three transfers, with an additional commit in Jeremiah Cobb planning to sign in February. However, the recruiting isn’t finished, especially in several key position groups.
One of the biggest priorities for the Tigers in this recruiting cycle has been finding talent and depth to add to the offensive line. Currently, there are five offensive line signees in the class of 2023, as well as one transfer, and now the coaching staff will continue to browse the transfer portal for more options.
Four offensive linemen are visiting the Auburn football program this week.
1. Micah Mazzccua | Baylor
Starting 10 games for the Bears this season at left guard, Mazzccua entered the portal two weeks ago with a decision date of January 8. He confirmed his Plains visit on Twitter earlier today, and 247 Sports indicates that Florida is another school pursuing the OL.
2. Gunner Britton | Western Kentucky
A two-year starter at tackle for the Hilltoppers, Britton entered the transfer portal in early December. He visited Mississippi State prior to Western Kentucky’s bowl game, and will spend part of this week in Auburn. Britton told 247 Sports’ Paul Jones he does not have an announcement date in mind, but would like to be finished with recruitment quickly.
3. Marcellus Johnson | Eastern Michigan
This OL only recently entered the portal, and has already received over 12 offers from programs around the country. A three-year starter, Johnson will have one year of eligibility at his next stop, and is reportedly set to visit Colorado after his time on the Plains this week.
4. Damieon George | Alabama
Originally from Texas, this OL signed with Bama in 2020 and will have two years of eligibility wherever he ends up. In three seasons with the Tide, George played in 17 games and was primarily used as a reserve.
