The Auburn football program began a new chapter at the end of 2022 with the dismissal of Bryan Harsin, the interim head coaching tenure of Cadillac Williams, and ultimately the hiring of the Tigers’ new head coach, Hugh Freeze.

Freeze arrived on the Plains and got to work immediately, working on forming his staff while putting recruiting at the top of his priority list and getting the program a top 20 recruiting class on early signing day.

So far, the Tigers have taken three transfers: OT Dillon Wade, TE Rivaldo Fairweather, and edge Elijah McAllister. But they’re not finished yet! Freeze made a point early on to say that the program would be leaning heavily on the transfer portal in year one to add talent and depth.

When it comes to offensive positions, the coaching staff is still going hard in the portal. With five offensive linemen signed to the 2023 class, the Tigers are still looking to add several transfers, and the good news here is that four OL targets are visiting campus this week.

Auburn football missed out on its primary running back target Dillon Johnson yesterday when the former Mississippi State Bulldog committed to Washington. The Tigers will likely still be looking for another experienced RB to pair with Jarquez Hunter. According to Christian Clemente, a potential new target could be Liberty transfer Dae Dae Hunter who only just entered the portal at the end of December.

The Tigers are also still working to add several wide receivers from the portal. Former Oregon Duck Dont’e Thornton visited last month and has an Auburn offer, but the hype has died down in recent weeks as the WR visits other programs around the country. Another portal receiver with an offer from Auburn football is Kaden Prather, but he committed to Maryland earlier today. Hopefully the Tigers can get a few more wide receivers to campus for a visit this month.
