One message board poster, whose theory went viral, made the audacious claim that the reason why Ole Miss is pursuing new options under center is not to increase competition to a QB room that Jaxson Dart may not be ready to lead if the Rebels have championship hopes — but instead to spite Auburn football first-year head coach Hugh Freeze.

Shared by the Message Board Geniuses Twitter account, the poster believes that Ole Miss’ pursuit of Oklahoma State transfer signal-caller Spencer Sanders is merely to hoard as many QBs as possible and make things harder on the Plains for Freeze and co.

Here was the post in all of its unhinged glory:

Ole Miss and Auburn football could be a heated new SEC rivalry in 2023 and beyond

With the passing of Mike Leach, there is a significant loss in juice for the Mississippi in-state Egg Bowl rivalry. Now, though, there is a new vitriolic SEC collision we can all look forward to annually: the Lane Kiffin-Auburn football blood rivalry.

Kiffin’s decision to use AU for a raise, and perhaps the counter-decision for Auburn not to pursue someone whose brand is a priority over the university he’s employed by, has led to incessant trolling by the Ole Miss HC on social media to create a new feud.

Kiffin is smart for this. His Twitter interactions were the highest among college football coaches in 2022 largely due to the love the Auburn family doled out during the time period many thought he’d be Plains-bound, and the unlove that followed his decision to stick in Oxford.

With Auburn football still getting attention the past two years despite not being relevant by season’s end, the Ole Miss faithful will certainly appreciate this extra attention moving forward.
