Big Game Boomer’s most recent list, the Top 50 Best Head Coaches To Follow On Twitter, was topped by two former Auburn football head coaching candidates: Lane Kiffin (No. 1) and Deion Sanders (No. 2).

This is not the first time Kiffin has been shouted out for his social media presence, with the official Ole Miss football Twitter account pointing out that the Rebels head coach had the most Twitter interactions in 2022. Of course, Auburn football fans had much to do with that during the post-Bryan Harsin period when it looked like Kiffin would become the next Tigers head coach.

Sitting second on the list is someone who ultimately never really had much traction with Auburn, or any of the other southern Power Five schools he was linked to, ‘Prime Time’ Sanders — who ultimately chose Colorado over USF. Sanders was always a longshot to go to the Plains even if national analysts made it seem like he would.

Hugh Freeze has had perfect level of social media interaction as Auburn football head coach

Hugh Freeze’s social media presence has been at a perfect level since he became the head coach of Auburn football: minimal. While Freeze will dish shoutouts out to Tigers recruits and fans, he will also have a corny video with his family.

What’s missing is a misguided direct message to a sexual assault victim, something he was found to do during his time at Liberty. Freeze has been painted as something he is not by some in the backlash of his AU hiring, but he has done nothing worthy of scorn during his short tenure as Tigers coach.

Freeze isn’t the headline grabber someone like Lane Kiffin or Deion Sanders is, but that’s for the best. Auburn’s culture is the headline grabber, and the interactions of the institution Auburn Twitter has become should take centerstage over a me-first, brand-oriented coach.

Ron Roberts is one of many coaching newcomers to have embraced the culture. Freeze and co. aren’t looking to implement it like ‘Prime Time’ unpopularly did in Boulder.
