In-state, No. 4 overall WR in class of 2024 trending to Auburn football
The Auburn football team is gearing up for its first season in the Hugh Freeze Era, which will be ushered in by an almost completely new coaching staff. Change is coming to the Plains and the Tigers are fighting to get back to a high level of game play once again.
One of those changes will hopefully be a revamped wide receivers room. Though nearly all of the wide receivers are returners from last season, they played in 2022 with little experience and not much productivity (for a multitude of reasons).
New wide receivers coach Marcus Davis is looking to turn those flashes of potential from last year into a competitive, talented position group this year—and in the years to come. He is already laying the foundations by recruiting Phenix City wide receiver Cam Coleman.
The 4-star is ranked as the #20 overall prospect and the #4 wide receiver in the recruiting class of 2024 and is the #2 player out of the state of Alabama, according to the On3 recruiting database. He visited the Plains once last summer, and again last October for the game versus LSU. He has over 20 offers in hand, from top programs including Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Oregon to name a few.
Historically, the Tigers have had trouble recruiting athletes out of Central High School, but when Davis was hired as WR coach earlier this year he made Coleman a top priority. According to Coleman himself, via Auburn Live, the Tigers are at the top of his list:
"“They’re one of my top schools most definitely,” Coleman said. “Close to home, I love the atmosphere. It feels like home every time I go there.”"
So far, Auburn football has three commits in the recruiting class of 2024: cornerbacks Jayden Lewis and A’Mon Lane, and quarterback Walker White. Hopefully they will be able to add Cam Coleman to the list soon.
