The Auburn football program needs consistent recruiting success if it is going to claw its way back to the top of the Southeastern Conference, and new head coach Hugh Freeze and his staff are doing all they can to lay the foundations for the future, primarily the 2024 and 2025 classes, at the moment.

Spring practice is in full swing on the Plains, but the staff is still working hard on the recruitment of the class of 2024. The Tigers currently have three commits in the recruiting class of 2024 in quarterback Walker White and cornerbacks Jayden Lewis and A’Mon Lane.

Though he is not ready to make a commitment, 4-star Kelvin Hunter is beginning to narrow things down. He condensed his list of potential college programs down to just five, including the Auburn football program. The others are South Carolina, Appalachian State, Michigan, and Virginia Tech. Hunter has not announced a commitment date.

Hunter is ranked as the #307 overall prospect and the #27 safety in the recruiting class of 2024, and he is the #6 recruit out of South Carolina. Naturally, he has been a longtime target of the Gamecocks, and in-state SC is the favorite to land the safety, per Gamecock Central. He visited Columbia for Junior Day, and is planning to take an official visit this summer in June.

The safety received an offer from the Tigers just one month ago on February 14, but with Zac Etheridge leading the charge it seems as though the program has already made an impression on the South Carolina native.

It’s likely that the Auburn football program will get a visit from 4-star safety Kelvin Hunter early this summer, and once he gets on campus it’s possible that he will shift more towards the Tigers and away from the Gamecocks despite proximity to home.
