Though the second transfer portal window has gotten off to a slow start, the Auburn football coaching staff is expected to be pretty active in pursuing players. There are several positions of need for the Tigers, from quarterback to offensive line to linebacker, and their first two offers went out to offensive linemen.

Former Tulsa OL Jaden Muskrat was the first, soon followed by former Wyoming OL Emmanuel Pregnon. With their third offer, they are going for another position of need: jack linebacker. Defensive coordinator Ron Roberts plans to use this hybrid position to get an advantage over opponents’ offenses, but the departures of Derick Hall and Eku Leota leave the position lacking in experience.

Enter former ULM linebacker Anthony Campbell. The defensive end, originally from Bartow, FL, played in nine total games for the Warhawks over two seasons after transferring from a junior college, and ended his ULM career with five total tackels, one tackle for loss, and one pass deflected.

According to Auburn Live’s Jeffrey Lee, Auburn football was quick to reach out to Campbell as soon as he entered the portal, along with Purdue, West Virginia, North Texas, and Cal.

Campbell will have two years of eligibility at his next stop. Should he choose Auburn, he would join a room with recent Vanderbilt transfer Elijah McAlister, Dylan Brooks, Hayden Brice, Brenton Williams, and Keldric Faulk. So far throughout spring practice, the coaches have been pretty impressed with Faulk, but there is definitely an opportunity for Campbell to compete for a starting spot on the Tigers’ defense.

Expect more transfer offers to go out as spring practices around the country finish and more players enter their names. The portal will be open until April 30, and players don’t have to commit to another school in that time frame but they must have entered the portal.
