Once again, it’s portal season, and the Auburn football coaching staff is on the hunt for players to add to the roster ahead of the 2023 season. The transfer portal, which opened on April 15, will remain open until April 30, and while players do not have to be committed to another school in that timeframe they must have their names entered.

So far, the Tigers have lost four players to the portal in Jeffrey M’ba, Desmond Tisdol, Kameron Brown, and Tar’Varish Dawson, but more could leave in the coming days. They’ve also extended a couple of offers since the portal opened to OLs Jaden Muskrat (Tulsa) and Emmanuel Pregnon (Wyoming) and LB Anthony Campbell (ULM).

Though it is not known yet if he will get interest from the Tigers this time around, a former Auburn football commit has entered his name in the portal. West Virgina defensive back Cam’Ron Riley was committed to the Tigers in the class of 2019, and spent that spring on the Plains before transferring to UNC ahead of the 2019 season.

Kelly hit the portal in the December window and transferred from UNC to West Virginia in the new year, but after participating in spring practice and the spring game for the Cavaliers has decided to look for a new home.

After four seasons with the Tar Heels, Kelly totaled 180 tackles, two tackles for loss, five interceptions, 12 passes deflected, and one forced fumble. His junior year was named All-ACC third team, and he started every game for UNC in 2022.

Seeing as he just entered the portal yesterday, there isn’t much information about programs that want him, but it will be interesting to see if he receives interest from Auburn football for a second time.
