The last week has been extremely successful in the world of recruiting for the Auburn football program. Head coach Hugh Freeze and the coaching staff earned two commitments in a single day, adding 4-star defensive back Kensley Faustin and 3-star wide receiver Bryce Cain to the 2024 roster.
Will the momentum continue? Today is the day for 4-star linebacker Joseph Phillips. The local prospect, from Tuskegee, AL, has narrowed down his choices to Georgia, Tennessee, Clemson, Texas A&M, and Auburn. Phillips has visited each of those schools, some more than once, but has taken only one official visit—to Georgia.
For the past few weeks Georgia was considered to be the favorite in Phillips’ recruitment, but after a trip to the Plains last week it seems that the Tigers have searched to the top according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine and also the 247 Crystal Ball Predictions.
Phillips noted that all of his top schools have great facilities, but they differ in terms of environment, and his final decision will be based on two things, per On3:
"“My decision will be based on relationships and the ability to play,” Phillips added. “I want to trust the coaches with me on and off the field. It is important for me to see the chance to play early too.”"
The Tuskegee product is ranked as the #151 overall prospect and the #15 linebacker in the recruiting class of 2024. He is the #10 recruit out of the state of Alabama, and would be another major in-state win for Freeze and the coaching staff should he choose to play for Auburn football.
Though he originally planned to commit at the end of the summer in August, Phillips is expected to make his announcement today at noon, which bodes well for the Tigers due to their recent surge in his recruitment.
