Recently missed Auburn football recruiting target Red Morgan, who committed to Florida State in a second Fourth of July shocker on the trail following Cameron Coleman’s commitment to Texas A&M, may be a “flip candidate” according to Tomahawk Nation.

“It’s worth noting that Morgan hasn’t taken an official visit to Auburn yet, and I think that’ll very likely happen — if so, he could be a flip candidate, and FSU will have to fight hard to keep him in the fold,” the FSU-focused publication wrote.

Auburn football landed just one of their targets on Independence Day, a holiday the program was expecting multiple commitments on. While Morgan and Coleman went to Jimbo Fisher’s former and current team, respectively, Clay-Chalkville LB D’Angelo Barber committed to defensive coordinator Ron Roberts, LB coach Josh Aldridge and co. for the 2024 class.

Hugh Freeze struggles to establish Auburn football pipeline at Central-Phenix City

One thing Hugh Freeze is doing infinitely better than his predecessor Bryan Harsin is working the relationships with high school coaches around the state in order to get in on the talent at those programs. Unfortunately, it seems as though his relationship with Phenix-Central City head coach Patrick Nix is not where it needs to be just yet with Morgan and Coleman snubbing the Plains.

Of course, the way Patrick’s son, Bo Nix, was treated on the way out of AU by many fans could’ve left a bad taste in Nix’s mouth, but bygones should be bygones with a new Tigers coaching staff installed.

Ultimately, Freeze will need to establish the kind of local pipeline Alabama head coach Nick Saban has with Thompson High School in Alabaster to build the kind of title-winning team Tuscaloosa has seen over the past decade and a half — whether it’s in Phenix City or elsewhere in the state.
