COMMITTING TODAY: Auburn football DL target Malik Blocton
It was a shocker of a recruiting week for the Auburn football program. Though the Tigers earned the commitment of linebacker D’Angelo Barber on the Fourth of July, they also missed out on one of their top targets in the class of 2024 when 5-star wide receiver Cam Coleman committed to Texas A&M.
Today, 3-star defensive lineman Malik Blocton will announce his commitment decision. From Pike Road, Alabama—under an hour away from the Plains—Blocton is ranked as the #424 overall prospect and the #44 defensive lineman in the recruiting class of 2024. He is the #24 recruit out of the state of Alabama.
Blocton will choose between his top schools, including Alabama, Florida, Troy, Texas, and Auburn football, but it is expected to come down between the Longhorns and the Tigers.
The defensive lineman has visited no school more than he has Auburn, and is widely considered to be a lock to join the Tigers’ 2024 class, but he did take an official visit to Texas last month. However, Blocton has a close connection to the Plains as his older brother, Marcus Harris, is already part of Auburn football’s defensive line corps following a transfer from Kansas in 2021.
Blocton and his family were already familiar with the coaching staff at Auburn due to head coach Hugh Freeze’s recruitment of his brother while Freeze was still at Liberty. The DL has been a longtime fan of the Tigers, even more so after being recruited by the team since he was in tenth grade.
The announcement will take place around 3:00 p.m. central time at Pike Road High School, and hopefully the Tigers will add a tenth member to the class of 2024.
