After a long summer of recruiting, things have now settled into a dead period. Monday, July 24th is the last day of the dead period, and five days later the Auburn football program will host recruits and their families on campus for arguably the biggest recruiting event of the year: Big Cat Weekend.

The event is meant to focus on fun and games with recruits and their families without the seriousness and business of recruiting. Prospects will enjoy food and fellowship and hopefully be convinced to become an Auburn Tiger, maybe even at Big Cat Weekend itself.

There are usually several recruits who commit to Auburn football at Big Cat, so who could be on commitment watch for this year?

One recruit that has the potential to commit on the 29th is 4-star Malcolm Simmons. Ranked as the #365 overall prospect and the #28 ATH in the recruiting class of 2024, Simmons is being recruited to the Plains as a wide receiver. From Alexander City, roughly an hour away from Auburn, Simmons is the #19 recruit out of the state of Alabama.

He named his top seven schools in June, including Auburn, UCF, West Virginia, Coastal Carolina, Arkansas, Indiana, and Liberty. He has visited the Plains three times since head coach Hugh Freeze took over the program, most recently last month. 247 Sports’ Steve Wiltfong put in a Crystal Ball prediction for Simmons to land at Auburn, and the Tigers lead On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, as well.

After the Tigers missed out on Cam Coleman in a shocking turn of events over the July 4th weekend, Malcolm Simmons would be a big addition to the wide receivers room. It seems like the writing is on the wall for the 4-star ATH out of Alex City, and it’s possible that he’s waiting until Big Cat Weekend to make his pledge to the Tigers official.
