Football season is just a month away now that it’s August, and it’s set to be a big year for head coach Hugh Freeze and the Auburn football program. Though the Tigers may not make big in Freeze’s first year on the Plains, getting to the 2023 College Football Playoff is always the goal.

Last year, the College Football Playoff saw a shakeup with the addition of TCU to the four team lineup, alongside Georgia, Michigan, and Ohio State. The Horned Frogs pulled off a shocker and beat Michigan 51-45 to punch their ticket to the championship, while reigning champion Georgia picked off Ohio State to earn their place in SoFi Stadium.

Obviously, the Dawgs went on to win their second championship in a row, and this year they’ll be gunning for a third. For the 2023-2024 season, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, and Michigan are the top teams favored to win it all. But where will the games be played?

2023 College Football Playoff Semifinals

The two semifinal games will take place on New Years Day. Two teams will play in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, with kickoff at 5:00 p.m. eastern, and the other two will play in the Sugar Bowl, located in New Orleans, Louisiana, and scheduled to begin at 8:45 p.m. eastern time.

Notably, the Auburn football team has played in both of those locations. The Tigers trekked to the Rose Bowl in 2013 to compete in the last BCS National Championship against Florida State, and last played in the Sugar Bowl in 2017 against new SEC member Oklahoma.

2023 College Football Playoff Championship

The championship game will be played one week after the semifinals as usual, on January 8, a Monday, at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. NRG Stadium is home to the NFL’s Texans, and hosts the Texas Bowl annually. It will be the first time the city has hosted the championship game.
