Peach State OL target: Auburn ‘is up there for me’
Since arriving on the Plains last December, head coach Hugh Freeze’s number one priority has been recruiting. He said that he expected the Tigers to be a little behind when he arrived, but he was surprised by the talent gap between Auburn football and other teams in the SEC.
At the top of the list of position groups that needed help was the offensive line, and Freeze worked hard to secure several OL in the recruiting class of 2023 and from the transfer portal. This year, the Tigers’ offensive line has seriously improved despite dealing with injured personnel. The coaching staff has even had to make some unconventional adjustments to keep the line strong.
With a few solid years of recruiting in the trenches, the problem will be solved, and Freeze is working to make sure that there are valuable OL in the recruiting classes of 2024 and 2025. One of those priority recruits is 3-star Favour Edwin.
The No. 55 offensive tackle in the recruiting class of 2024 and the No. 69 recruit out of the state of Georgia, Edwin has recently become a big priority for offensive line coach Jake Thornton and the rest of the coaching staff. He has visited the Plains twice this season, and named Auburn football in his top five programs earlier this week.
Edwin’s top five include Alabama, Clemson, Georgia Tech, and Florida in addition to Auburn. Originally from Nigeria, the OL picked up football just over a year ago. Though he has given no timeline yet for his official decision, there’s no doubt that the Tigers will be in consideration, per Auburn Rivals:
"“It’s up there for me,” Edwin said. “When it comes to making my decision, Auburn is going to be up there for sure.”"
The OL plans to visit Florida next weekend and Clemson the following weekend but will return to the Plains at the end of the month to visit for the Iron Bowl.
