Arkansas writer on Auburn football matchup: ‘Don’t start comparing scores’
The Auburn football team has finally gotten some upward momentum in the 2023 season. After a discouraging four-game losing streak to some of the toughest teams in the country, the Tigers are back on track and on their way to achieving bowl eligibility, something they failed to do last season.
It’s possible that sixth win will come this weekend. The Tigers will be traveling to Fayetteville to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks, who are sitting at the very bottom of the SEC West standings but riding the high of an overtime win over the Florida Gators from last weekend.
All Hogs author Andy Hodges claims that there is a certain corner of the Arkansas fanbase where the fans are convinced that the fate of the entire program hinges on each individual game. Those fans, who Hodges refers to as ‘the Idiots,’ now believe that the Razorbacks are on their way to running the college football scene for the next decade.
However, except for last year’s matchup, the Hogs have lost every game to Auburn football since 2016, and Hugh Freeze defeated Arkansas with his Liberty football team just last year. Hodges believes thatHogs fans should hold their horses when it comes to comparing their team with the Tigers:
"They are 5-4, which is no big deal. Don’t start comparing scores because that’s dangerous. Auburn lost to LSU, 48-18, and Texas A&M, 27-10. Just because the Razorbacks played them closer means absolutely nothing. The Tigers took Georgia into the fourth quarter with a lead and couldn’t hold it, losing a 27-20 game. Then, they thumped Mississippi State, 27-13. Still want to compare scores?"
Hodges also went on to point out that Auburn football will likely be more prepared for the game because after firing their offensive coordinator last month they look very similar to last year’s team. While a win for the Tigers is definitely not guaranteed, it seems like they’ll have a good chance to get their third SEC win.
