2023 was the first year for Auburn football under head coach Hugh Freeze, who has officially held the position for a full year, now. Freeze took the job knowing that a massive rebuild would be needed to get the Tigers back to where they belong in the world of college football, and during his first year has focused just as much on recruiting as the on-field product.

Every chance that he gets, Freeze engages with a potential recruit, whether it’s the morning before kickoff or periods of time that most people would consider “off time” and it’s paying off.

Currently, the Tigers have 18 commits in the recruiting class of 2024, which places the class in the Top 20 of all college football teams with plenty of time to move up in the rankings. Auburn football hosted over 100 recruits on the Plains last weekend for the Iron Bowl, and though the Tigers suffered a tough loss to the Tide, the atmosphere almost made up for it.

For fifth-year senior Jaylin Simpson, a veteran Auburn cornerback, this is what being a Tiger is all about, and his message to all the recruits considering playing football on the Plains, per Auburn Rivals:

"“I would just tell them, ‘Man, this is what you come to Auburn for,’” said Simpson. “They sat here and watched the game. We put on a show out there. This is why you come — primetime ball. This is the biggest stage. Michigan-Ohio State, that’s cool and all, but the SEC, Iron Bowl — this is what you want to play in. This game right here, this is what you come here for.”"

Even in year one, with a 6-6 record and no hopes of playing for a conference or national championship, the Auburn football fans made Jordan-Hare into the best environment in college football, and that is something that speaks to recruits just as much as winning.
