After a big recruiting weekend on the Plains, the Auburn football program got some good news with a new commitment. The Tigers welcomed over 30 recruits to campus this weekend for a big Junior Day event and pushed for the commitment of some highly sought-after prospects.

A native of Auburn, running back Omar Mabson recently reclassified from the recruiting class of 2026 to the class of 2025, and he was on the Plains this weekend for an official visit. Over the past few months, he has developed a strong relationship with head coach Hugh Freeze and offensive coordinator and running backs coach Derrick Nix, who visited his home and Auburn High School to recruit the running back to the Plains.

After his official visit, which came on the heels of an official visit to Alabama, Mabson's mind was made up. He announced his commitment to Auburn football on Monday morning via his personal social media channels.

Mabson finished his junior season with 1,515 yards and 29 touchdowns while averaging 8.2 yards per carry for the Auburn High Tigers. Following his performance, he chose to reclassify to the 2025 class because he decided he was ready to go to college and take the next step in his football career. Even though Mabson will remain in his hometown for college, he plans to treat his role with Auburn football with professionalism.

“It feels good, but I’m not going to be at the house, though,” he said, per Auburn Live. “I’m going to treat it like I’m out in California or somewhere. I’m going to treat it like I’m going to college to play football and pursue going to the NFL. I’m very excited. I’m ready to compete. War Eagle!”

Mabson is the 26th high school signee and the 42nd player to join Auburn football's recruiting class of 2025.
