It's been a great weekend for the Auburn basketball program, and things just keep getting better. After knocking off No. 2 Alabama in Coleman Coliseum on Saturday, the Tigers got the commitment of JUCO guard Abdul Bashir.
A current player at Casper College in Wyoming, Bashir was on Auburn's campus last week for an official visit and to witness the Tigers' matchup against Florida. Although Auburn fell to Florida, the team's dominance over Alabama was enough to convince Bashir the Plains was the place to play.
Bashir is averaging 25.3 points per game and is shooting at 37.3 percent from beyond the three point line. His free throw percentage is 88.4, and he shoots 42.1 percent from the field. He chose the Tigers over schools including Seton Hall, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Kansas State, and more.
The JUCO guard announced his commitment Sunday morning, and his current coach at Casper College, Tom Parks, shared an emotional message about his player's commitment to Auburn basketball on X.
"This one makes me emotional," wrote Parks in his post on X. "I couldn’t be more happy for someone. Few take time to get to know and understand Abdul. They don’t understand the pain and the story behind the struggle. They don’t see the improvement he makes everyday as a person, leader, and player.
"Abdul is one of the most confident, humble, and giving people I’ve ever been around. He makes me a better coach every single day. He’s one of those people that make everyone around him show up because he does.
"Congrats, Abdul! You deserve everything coming your way. I’m so damn proud of you. You are changing the lives for your entire family, and I’m so excited to witness it. Love you man, thanks for allowing me to be a part of your journey."
Bashir is the fourth addition to Auburn basketball's class of 2025.
