The ACC could apparently look to rebrand with a new name that honors its new geography amid its lawsuit with Florida State University and Clemson University's Boards of Trustees. That's what Boston College On SI's Graham Dietz writes, anyway.
Dietz offered four replacement names: the All-Coast Conference (ACC), the Atlantic & Pacific Conference (APC), the Transcontinental Athletic Conference (TAC), the Coast-to-Coast Conference (CCC), and the East-West Athletic Conference (EWAC).
Dietz believes the Big Ten could also follow suit.
"While this is probably one of the last things on Phillips' mind currently—due to the emergence of revenue sharing and the current legal battle between the ACC, Florida State, and Clemson over distribution disputes—there should be some consideration over this topic for the sake of inclusivity," Dietz wrote.
"The ACC will not be the only conference to take this into account, either. For instance, the Big Ten, which was composed of teams primarily from the upper-mid to mid-east region of the United States, now includes Southern California (USC), California Los Angeles (UCLA), Oregon, and Washington."
The SEC would prefer UNC and UVA to FSU and Clemson
FSU and Clemson largely resolved their issues with the ACC, having negotiated an out of the TV deal. Price tags are still up for debate for each year, but there's a descending fee to pay out of the conference until 2031.
Should the Noles and Tigers find the out they want, they may be joined by the University of North Carolina and the University of Virginia. UVA's ambitions are more ambiguous.
And in that case, the SEC would prefer the Tar Heels and Cavaliers, not necessarily wanting to double up in the Florida and South Carolina television markets.
The SEC has enough championship firepower to not need two championship programs since the start of the 2010s. But they'll never have enough money not to welcome more TV markets.
