Former Alabama Crimson Tide big man Aiden Sherrell is one of "9 names to watch for Auburn basketball in transfer portal" for the Tigers' center rotation, at least according to AL.com's Jerry Humphrey.

Per Humphrey, "Sherrell, Alabama’s starting center entered the transfer portal on Monday, joining Taylor Bol Bowen as the second Crimson Tide player to announce his departure from the program. The 6-foot-10 Sherrell averaged 11.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 2.2 blocks while shooting 33.8% from 3-point territory in the 2025 season. In the two games against Auburn this year, he combined for 16 points and nine rebounds. He will cost a hefty penny to bring onto the Tigers’ roster."

Auburn can use a clear answer at the 5 after the Tigers lost Filip Jovic to the transfer portal on Tuesday, with reports circulating that he was asking for up to $2 million for a return to the Plains. It's unclear if he'll find that on the open market, though he's not a true 5 and isn't an elite shooter for the power forward spot.

It's also unclear if Sherrell will cost that much. He's definitely closer to being worth that much in the market than Jovic, though.

Sherrell started every game for Alabama and helped the Tide reach a top-40 ranking in KenPom's defensive efficiency rankings. Given Alabama's Sweet 16 run, he'd come to Auburn with more winning experience than anyone else.

Michigan State could be a competitor for Aiden Sherrell

The Detroit native Sherrell could decide to return to his home state, with the Michigan State Spartans emerging as a top option for Tom Izzo and Co. Of course, if the newly-crowned champion Michigan Wolverines come calling, Ann Arbor is even closer to home and provides a championship setup under Dusty May.

Sherrell would be great for the Tigers, but Steven Pearl has a lot of work to do selling Auburn after an IBOB sweep and a highly-scrutinized spotlight on the program Bruce Pearl created for his son on CBS airwaves.

That shouldn't be the toughest of sells, since Sherrell has felt Neville Arena at its peak during the 2024-25 season, and AU has an upwards of $12-plus million to spend on this roster.
