Earlier this week, the Auburn football program welcomed its 33rd head coach in Alex Golesh. After two hires that ended in disaster and five consecutive losing seasons, there is a lot of hope that the former USF head coach can turn things around on the Plains.

In his introductory press conference, Golesh was asked by media members to describe his offense, and it should have been music to the ears of every true Auburn football fan.

The first thing the Tigers' new head coach brought up about his scheme was the run game.

“I would tell you that the foundation of it is that everything starts with the run," Golesh said. "We find ways to run the football. We find ways to create matchups in the run game."

Of course, the concept of the run game was something that former coach Hugh Freeze couldn't seem to wrap his head around. Despite having multiple talented running backs, Freeze failed to give them the spotlight in the offense that they deserved, especially when being led by a quarterback who struggled to make decisions.

But Golesh has no plans to ignore the star-studded group of wide receivers on the Plains, either.

"Off of the run game sets up everything downfield in the pass game," he continued. "We use the entire width of the field. We’ll condense it. We’ll expand it, and we use tempo to our advantage. Put defenses in a disadvantage. Try to simplify what defenses can do, and we try to create one-on-one matchups with as much space as you imagine we can. That’s the offense.”

Golesh stressed that his Auburn Tigers football team will be disciplined and aggressive, and if that can translate to the offensive side of the ball, it's possible the Tigers will win many more games under Golesh than under their past several coaches.
