Running back Jeremiah Cobb committed to the Auburn Tigers football program back in 2022, and since then, he has been biding his time until it's his turn to take on the RB1 role. With former team captain Damari Alston's departure from the team, Cobb's responsibility increased dramatically, but he has relished the opportunity to get his shot on the field.
Cobb has already had four 100-yard games this season, and he set career highs for himself in last week's competition with 28 carries for 153 yards. Still, Cobb is quick to credit his teammates, and knows his job wouldn't be possible without the others.
“I can’t thank the wide receivers enough,” Cobb said, per AuburnTigers.com. “Rushing down there and getting blocks, it’s awesome to make that happen so I’m proud of them.”
The wide receivers have done a great job of blocking for Cobb, but it all starts with the abilities of the offensive line.
“They do a great job,” said Cobb of the position group. “I’ve had faith in every single one of them. They worked their tails off all summer, so I feel very confident.”
Head coach Hugh Freeze and his coaching staff have lessened Cobb's load during practice in preparation for Kentucky to keep the running back fresh, but he will have some extra help this weekend with the return of transfer RB Durell Robinson, who was out due to injury, and from freshman Omar Mabson II.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday night at 6:30, hosting the Kentucky Wildcats in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
