Analyst claims Hugh Freeze's job is on the line in Week 9 when Auburn football battles Kentucky
Hugh Freeze's job as head coach of Auburn football is not in doubt when the Tigers take on Kentucky from Kroger Field in Week 9. Saturday Blitz's Andrew Boardwine is under the impression that it is, however.
Boardwine claimed that Freeze wouldn't survive a 3-9 record, which would be much more likely in the event the Wildcats took care of business on their homefield on Saturday.
"If Freeze loses this one, he'll fall to 8-13 as the head coach of Auburn, and the Tigers will be just 2-6 overall with games against Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, and Alabama remaining," Boardwine wrote. "Honestly, even LA-Monroe isn't a given.
"If Auburn finishes the year 3-9, the contingent of fans who are already calling for Freeze to be fired will be even louder. This one feels like a game he needs, especially looking at how the rest of 2024 will likely go."
In most situations, the job Freeze is doing would get him fired. But Auburn is the opposite of most situations right now.
Auburn football stuck with Hugh Freeze until further notice
AU is somehow still pulling in many blue-chip recruits despite the job on the field. Freeze was a great recruiter before NIL was legal, and unlike many, he's adapted to this new era on the trail well. That is keeping him employed after Auburn watched the last head coach come in and refuse to do his job.
Freeze is doing the recruiting but he's having trouble inspiring his guys not to make key mistakes that undo all of the good his team is doing on both sides of the ball. The Tigers have a top-30 offense and defense but commit too many turnovers to finish the job.
As long as Freeze is keeping hopes for the future alive, Auburn can't justify a third contract buyout in four years.
AU is stuck in a Freeze Warning until further notice.
