Alex Golesh’s recruiting picked up even more steam on Saturday as 3-star wide receiver Brylan Odour committed to Auburn, picking the Tigers over rival Ole Miss, Indiana and South Florida, among others.

The Riverdale HS (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) product is ranked the No. 51 wide receiver in the 2027 recruiting class, and is a composite 4-star per 247Sports. As a junior last season playing for Blackman HS, the 6-foot-2 receiver Odour caught 24 passes for 484 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. He was a priority target for Golesh, who offered him a scholarship during his time at USF before accepting the Auburn job this past offseason.

According to 247Sports, Odour is still set to take official visits to Indiana, USF, Auburn and Ole Miss this summer, with his trip to the Plains coming on June 5.

Odour becomes the fifth commitment for Golesh and his staff in the 2027 cycle, raising Auburn’s team ranking to 34th nationally and 11th in the SEC per 247Sports team rankings. The wide receiver joins 4-star running back Myson Johnson-Cook, 4-star defensive lineman Donivan Moore, 3-star tight end George Lamons Jr. and 3-star offensive lineman Jaylon Moore.

While 11th in the SEC isn’t precisely where Auburn needs to be in the recruiting rankings, one wonders whether Golesh and his staff are more inclined to focus on the transfer portal to get players who can contribute immediately rather than putting all their money on players coming out of high school. A mixture of both is probably the right move, but in today’s world of college football, it seems more and more that teams are putting emphasis on signing those players who have shown that they can produce at the college level.

For example, look at Auburn’s offensive depth chart, which currently has just one starter – running back Jeremiah Cobb  – who played for the Tigers last season, joining 10 transfers, including quarterback Byrum Brown.
