Things are not going great in the world of Auburn football recruiting. In the last few days, head coach Hugh Freeze and the Tigers have lost two big commits from the recruiting class of 2026. Both commits flipped to schools that share the same recruiting territory as Auburn.

It began with 4-star linebacker Shadarius Toodle on Sunday. The longtime Auburn commit recently said that Georgia was his top school, but he remained firm in his pledge to the Tigers and insisted after his official visit to the Plains that he was locked in with Auburn. Apparently things changed.

From Mobile, Alabama, Toodle is ranked as the No. 166 overall recruit and the No. 9 linebacker in the recruiting class of 2026. He is the No. 9 recruit out of the state, and it's a blow to have an in-state kid switch sides and play for the Dawgs.

Then, possibly worse news came shortly after Toodle's announcement. 4-star wide receiver Devin Carter flipped to the Florida State Seminoles, who are coming off a 2-10 season. Carter is a Florida State legacy, and was originally committed to the Seminoles before flipping to the Tigers. With a lot of time left before pen meets paper in December, it's possible there is another flip back.

From Douglasville, Georgia, Carter is ranked as the No. 120 overall recruit and the No. 17 wide receiver in the recruiting class of 2026. He is the No. 15 recruit out of the state of Georgia, and like Toodle, expressed he was locked in with the Tigers after his recent official visit.

The Auburn football recruiting class of 2026 is down to 5 commits and is ranked No. 87 overall.
