Though the Auburn football team began their spring practices much later than usual this year, freshman quarterback Deuce Knight is still getting ahead of the game.

Following the entries of Walker White, Holden Geriner, and Hank Brown into the transfer portal, the Tigers' quarterback room will have a completely different look heading into the 2025 season. Freshman signee Deuce Knight joins the room alongside transfer additions Jackson Arnold and Ashton Daniels.

For now, Knight and Arnold are the only two scholarship quarterbacks on campus, so the pair is getting all the reps during spring training. Arnold's participation in spring as the projected starter will be key in preparing him to run the offense this fall, and Knight's involvement is helping prepare him to be the next in line on the Plains. The young QB is already making an impression, according to quarterbacks coach Kent Austin.

"They're getting a lot of work in right now, and it's really helping them," Austin said this week, per Auburn Undercover. "It's really helped Deuce in particular. He's probably ahead of where I thought he would be, quite frankly. He's smart, he prepares, he's really gifted physically. He can make some throws that a lot of other guys can't make, even at his age right now."

The time as the only two quarterbacks is also helping foster a strong relationship between Arnold and Knight, and the only downside is that the coaching staff is having to make sure the pair is not throwing too much.

“Deuce's maturity is way farther along than what I even knew,” said Hugh Freeze, per Auburn Rivals. “He's hungry to learn and is always asking questions, always wanting to talk about how to improve this and that. He's an extremely hard worker that you have to run off the field. He'll throw too much.”
